SCHOOL-RELATED ASSOCIATIONS

PARENT ORGANIZATIONS

  • Parents of ISSH (Parents’ Association)

All parents of students at ISSH from Kindergarten through Grades 12 are members of the “Parents of ISSH,” which is presided over by a board. This organization is also referred to as the “Parents’ Association.” Though its main function is to raise funds for designated and approved school projects, its members have furthered the welfare of the school by volunteering their services for various activities and events.

  • Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

The Committee serves as a communication channel between parents and the administration. The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) focuses on the long-term goals of ISSH and is designed to assist with solutions to problems and challenges. In particular, the committee articulates fundamental concerns of the parents and the administration regarding such issues as general curriculum, specialized programs and general issues.

PAC consists of the school administration and two parent representatives from each division of the school. The representatives are selected by the school administration.

  • Friends of ISSH

The “Friends of ISSH” run the tennis group which facilitates the use of the tennis courts for Sacred Heart parents, families and faculty. This group also makes a donation to the Sr. d’Huart Crisis Fund.

  • The Japan Council of International School (JCIS)

This is an association of schools in Japan that offer an international education for expatriates and some host country students. Its main objectives are to promote intercultural understanding and international friendship through the activities of the member schools, broaden the dimensions of education in all the schools involved, advance the professional growth and welfare of individuals belonging to the educational staff of member schools, and to facilitate communication and cooperative action between and among all associated schools.

  • East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS)

The Council consists of approximately 94 schools with a combined enrollment of about 50,000 from almost every country in the world. Every type of organization is represented from church-related schools to private schools. Some have an almost exclusively American enrollment and teaching staff while others have more of an international student enrollment and teaching staff. Many, however, are strongly associated with the American-style educational system. The objectives are the same as those of JCIS, but on a broader scale.

  • The Kanto Plain Association of Secondary School Principals (KPASSP)

ISSH is a member school of KPASSP. This involves the school’s active participation in the various inter-school meetings and competitions, e.g., sports matches, debates, speech contests, drama festivals, gym clinics, etc.

  • The Japanese Ministry of Education

ISSH is a member of the Sacred Heart Corporation, which is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education.
