Campus and Facilities

The International School of the Sacred Heart is located just three minutes from Hiroo metro station on an expansive campus surrounded by greenery in the heart of Tokyo. Just minutes from dozens of embassies and the most popular expat neighbourhoods, walking onto campus feels like stepping into a whole different universe—a vibrant green oasis where girls grow with courage and confidence.

Our school is located on a single campus in central Tokyo, with all students, faculty, and staff from kindergarten to high school forming one strong community. A short walk or bicycle ride from the major residential neighborhoods of choice for international families, families can easily stop by for drop-off and pick-up, school functions, and social events—no long bus ride required. Our historic campus hosts a wide range of outdoor play and athletic facilities, including two playgrounds, a futsal field, and tennis courts, as well as a robust range of indoor facilities: science and technology labs, a large gymnasium, a robotics arena, athletic training equipment, several performance spaces with professional stage lighting, and a cafeteria with a full kitchen for fresh, hot meals. ISSH is the ideal environment for girls to learn, grow, and thrive.

Libraries

The International School of the Sacred Heart has two libraries that serve our school population of approximately 600 students and provide services to parents, students, faculty, staff and others in the community. Our collections are curated to support the school curriculum, facilitate research, and promote a love of reading in students.  Between the two libraries there are over 34,000 books in English, Japanese, and French, as well as periodicals.

We are committed to providing quality resources in both paper and digital formats. Students have access to ePlatform, an online library with a large collection of fiction reading and listening materials. For research, they also can access several useful subscription databases such as Britannica Online, EBSCOhost database, JSTOR, and Explora. These resources can be accessed on their laptops at school or at home via password.

Cafeteria

Our cafeteria is a central hub of our school—whether it's filled with the laughter of Junior School girls enjoying their lunchtime, the focused conversation of our parent ikebana flower-arranging club, or the enthusiastic discussion of High School Food Technology students preparing snacks for a big event, the cafeteria serves as a warm and welcoming gathering space. Through Cezars Kitchen, our school lunch contractor, we offer hot meals prepared fresh in our onsite kitchen, as well as drinks, fruit and veggies, fresh baked goods, and much more.

From performing spaces with professional stage lighting and sound systems to studios equipped for all the needs of 2D and 3D visual art, ISSH provides the facilities for students to develop a love of the arts. Our girls engage in a wide range of arts both within the curriculum and through extracurricular activities—the drama room, three art studios, two music rooms, three multipurpose performance spaces, and food lab for the culinary arts are filled with laughter and smiles each day.
