Academics

ISSH’s Goals and Criteria provide a clear commitment to high-quality learning and teaching. This is explicit in Goal 2: A Deep Respect for Intellectual Values, where high quality learning and teaching is referenced as a point of focus for teachers to support students in developing their full potential

A Place for Girls to Thrive Academically

Steeped in 115 years of international education in Tokyo, ISSH students have the finest of academic programmes led by outstanding educators from 20+ countries who embrace Sacred Heart’s clear and enduring mission. ISSH graduates routinely outperform their counterparts across the globe on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams, earning them internationally respected and accepted university credits before even beginning their university careers. They are accepted to tertiary institutions like Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, McGill, University of Toronto, and so many more prestigious colleges and universities around the globe. The 4 Shifts Protocol—educational best practice—is the focus of our definition of high quality learning and teaching, which means our curriculum is framed around deepening learning and thinking, student agency and personalisation, authentic work, and innovation.

Our pre-K through Grade 12 curriculum is founded upon the global Sacred Heart goals and criteria we share with our network schools around the world. We develop the whole student to have an empathetic understanding of the world ready to succeed as an international citizen. Our all-English curriculum incorporates a unique Values program with an international mindedness focus that strives to develop women leaders. Each child is a special member of our international community full of opportunities to grow academically and participate in athletics, drama, music, art, robotics, debate, Model United Nations... at school and in competitions within our membership in the Kanto Plain Association of  Schools.
