Welcome to our coeducational Kindergarten! We welcome boys and girls in K3 (three-year-old program), K4 (four-year-old program), and K5 (five-year-old program). Students at the International School of the Sacred Heart enjoy our spacious and well-equipped facilities designed specially with the needs of our early years learners in mind, both indoors and out.

Our curriculum provides all the advantages of an internationally minded education based on best teaching practices from around the world joining the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for science and social studies, Language Arts, and Mathematics to develop the whole child. At all levels, but especially in Kindergarten, we emphasize language, social, physical, emotional, and cultural development in addition to academic growth.

For me, and for all members of our international teaching team, PLAY is the key and our guiding leitmotiv. Our Kindergarten program is rooted in a language-rich environment with an emphasis on learning through play and the concomitant development of large and fine motor skills alongside social skills. We also foster learning through music and the creative arts. Activities encourage participation both in small and large groups. We have a spacious and bright Open Area which extends the classroom experience. Our unique and up-to-date library offers access to a vast expanse of books encouraging literacy. In support of working parents, we also offer an Extended Day Program, which unlike traditional daycare, is a continuum of the day offering structure and play.

Art, PE, Music, Library, and Japanese are taught by specialist teachers, and technology is integrated into the classroom to enhance learning through the use of interactive boards, iPads, and computers. Within the consistent and structured environment we create, your child will learn at her/his own pace and will grow in social and individual awareness.

I will be happy to meet you during a tour of our Kindergarten, and I am convinced that your child will thrive in our engaging educational program while developing a love of learning that will last for life.

A Place to Grow

Each fun-filled day in the Kindergarten programme at ISSH is scheduled to maintain the right balance of structure and creative play for early learners. Our literacy and numeracy curricula develop core skills at age appropriate levels to allow students to express themselves and understand the world around them, building a smooth bridge to Grade 1. The International Primary Curriculum creates a foundation for students to explore the world around them through inquiry-based units centred around themes related to their day to day lives. Learning centres provide a space for students to explore educational crafts, activities, and toys that spark their interest, and weekly art and music classes spark joy and foster expression and creativity.

Their Own Little World

Our Kindergarten is housed in a bright and spacious branch of our school building, separate from the older girls, in a little world just for early learners. Our kindergarten classrooms all open not to a hallway but to our Open Area, the centre of our Kindergarten learning facility and a joyous space for multi-age play, learning, and exploration.

A Warm and Welcoming Community

Kindergarten hosts a weekly assembly for songs, prayers, performances, presentations, announcements, and much more. All Kindergarten classes participate, with occasional guests from older students for collaborative and educational activities. Parents are always invited to join this assembly, whether every week or just a few times a year. There are many other volunteering and participation opportunities for parents as well, as Homeroom Parents, storybook readers, and much more.
