Options courses at Sacred Heart were introduced to enable students to try an activity that they would not normally try. In accordance with the Sacred Heart goal of “Personal Growth in an Atmosphere of Wise Freedom”, students are encouraged during this time to “grow in self knowledge and develop self confidence as they learn to deal realistically with their gifts and limitations”. Options courses are non-academic and are not assessed.


Students will learn the basics of crochet and use the skills to make small projects.


Key aspects of debating are taught in this option. Debating skills and public speaking are the focus. During the first semester, students are prepared for participation in the Middle School Model United Nations.

Documentary Making

Learn how to make a documentary and short films that have impact.


Students will learn a variety of drama techniques while they prepare for a performance at the end of the course. Script memorization for one or two extra afterschool rehearsals are course requirements.

Hand Made Accessories

Learn how to make accessories for yourself using metal, string and beads.

IT Explorers and Coding

For students who love IT or just want to get better at using different programs and developing more advanced coding skills.

Japanese Craft and Culture

Enjoy learning more about our host nation, Japan, by learning some of its traditional crafts.

Jazz Dance

Students learn Jazz Dance techniques and hip, new dance moves in preparation for an energetic performance.

Lego Robotics

Use the Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits to make and program simple robots to complete a series of challenges.

Math Lab

Students may be recommended by their Math teacher for this course if they need help to strength their numeracy skills.

Music Workshop

Play keyboards; acoustic and bass guitars; drums and percussion. Choose from a wide variety of styles: pop, rock, etc. Try out your voice with professional microphones and perform for a live audience. You are the star!


Students will develop skills and learn to appreciate a large variety of games and sports. Students will be given the opportunity to choose activities they enjoy. Every piece of equipment is used to play any sport students create.

Stage Management

Help make the props and set needed for the Drama Options performance, help them manage the lighting and set changes on performance day.

Writers Lab

Students may be recommended by their English teacher for this course if they need help to strength their writing.
