Post Graduation

The image shows a young woman in a graduation gown and cap, smiling and holding a diploma, standing next to an older woman who appears to be congratulating her.

One way in which we regularly see students embody Goal 5, Personal Growth in an Atmosphere of Wise Freedom, is through their post-graduation paths. 100 percent of students proceed to college or university after their time at ISSH, but what they choose to pursue, and where, is up to them!

To support them in determining their future paths, ISSH provides comprehensive support during the college and university application process, as well as programming for younger students to build a foundation of time management and study habits and opportunities to learn about their own passions and interests so that they may, in the long run, find the best-fit choice of tertiary education for themselves. We also offer parent programmes and support for families to help them in turn best support their daughters through the college and university application process.

University Guidance

At Sacred Heart we consider university/college guidance as an integral piece of our comprehensive school-wide cooperative efforts to provide for all aspects of our students' futures. Students and parents are given relevant information at the proper developmental stages through class meetings and parent programmes.

In high school, students participate in a variety of programmes designed to support their university application journey, such as the College Board PSAT exams and Personality and Career Assessments, Personal Education classes, and access to  SAT preparation courses, which most students take later in their high school careers.  Many high school students attend presentations by the dozens of representatives of colleges and universities around the globe who come to Sacred Heart or the Tokyo area.

In Grade 11, students have a weekly class where many aspects of post-secondary options are explained. The university search process begins in earnest at the beginning of the second semester, and students are supported all along the way, including weekly classes explaining the aspects of post-secondary options and a parent/student/counsellor conference to explore desires and choices. The following year, Grade 12 students begin work on all aspects of the college applications during a weekly course. The course continues into the second semester with a focus on topics involving the transition from high school to college and living abroad.

The Guidance Counsellor is ready and willing to assist families with all areas of this exciting and important process.
