General Information
International School of the Sacred Heart Summer School is a two-week program open to boys and girls aged K3-Grade 8. Due to ongoing COVID prevention measures, this year's program will be limited to currently enrolled Sacred Heart students and their siblings, and those who plan to enrol in August 2023.
Courses run from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and students may attend for either one or two weeks. A nurse will be on site during regular program hours and extended childcare is available if needed. This year’s program dates are:
Week 1: June 12th to 16th
Week 2: June 19th to 23rd
Pre-K to Grade 2 Program
Our well-balanced program is designed to stimulate your child’s mind and body. As well as participating in classroom-based activities, students attend daily specialist classes in the areas of music and sports. The two-week program is organized around a unifying weekly theme that serves as a scaffold for imaginative play and experiential learning. This year’s themes are:
Week one
At the Circus
The Circus is coming! Step right up and join the fun. Read books, learn poems, create crafty projects and sing songs that go along with this action-based theme. Discover the biggest, fastest and strongest animals, make clown face masks and puppets, enjoy puzzles and word searches, Circus Bingo, and more. Older children will explore the Circus through activities such as logic puzzles, vocabulary building games, word problems, popcorn math and more. Come one, come all to the greatest class on Earth!
Week two
Up, up and Away
Join us on an upward journey into the sky. This unit gives younger children a chance to learn about things that float and fly through the air. Make your own kites, play with bubbles, design parachutes, explore kite festivals in different countries, listen to stories and learn new words about floating and flying. This unit will teach older children facts about aviation that are just "plane" fun! They will enjoy reading about the pioneers and principles of flight as well as the first astronauts in space. Students will compete in a paper airplane design competition, make their own balsa wood plane and maybe even launch their own model rocket. Ready, set, take off!
Grade 3 to 8 Program
Students in grades 3 to 8 choose from a wide range of options in the areas of Arts/Crafts/Music, Cooking, English, Math, Science/Technology, and Sports/Dance. Each day consists of four 75-minute sessions. If you are attending Summer School for the full two-week program (June 12th through to the 23rd), please be sure to select different elective classes for the second week, as they are designed to repeat. If you select the same options for both weeks, please understand that the class material will remain the same from one week to the next.
