General Information
International School of the Sacred Heart Summer School is a two-week program open to boys and girls aged K3-Grade 8. Due to ongoing COVID prevention measures, this year's program will be limited to currently enrolled Sacred Heart students and those who are enrolled to begin in August 2022.
Courses run from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and students may attend for either one or two weeks. A nurse will be on site during regular program hours and extended childcare is available if needed. This year’s program dates are:
Week 1: June 13th to 17th
Week 2: June 20th to 24th
Pre-K to Grade 2 Program
Our well-balanced program is designed to stimulate your child’s mind and body. As well as participating in classroom-based activities, students attend daily specialist classes in the areas of music and sports. The two-week program is organized around a unifying weekly theme that serves as a scaffold for imaginative play and experiential learning. This year’s themes are:
Week one
Under the Sea
The sea, the sea, under the sea! The blue, the fresh, the ever free! The last unexplored frontier on earth, the oceans cover 71% of the earth’s surface and contain 99% of the living space on the planet! What a great backdrop for exciting summer school learning. Science experiments, craft projects, watery stories and songs will keep students engaged and informed during week one.
Week two
Transportation
Transportation makes the world go round! It is what connects us all to each other. What forms of transportation do you use? Which are the fastest? The most efficient? The safest? The most environmentally friendly? Learn about the great inventions of the past and imagine those that might be designed in the future. Explore the beauty of moving things, and perhaps even design your own mode of transportation that no-one else has thought of. Science experiments, craft projects, stories and songs about travel will keep students engaged and informed during week two.
Grade 3 to 8 Program
Students in grades 3 to 8 will all take two required classes daily (English and Math during periods 1 and 4), and will then choose from a wide range of options in the areas of Arts/Crafts/Music, Cooking, Languages, Science/Technology, and Sports. Each day consists of six 55-minute sessions. If you are attending Summer School for the full two-week program (June 13th through to the 24th), please be sure to select different elective classes for the second week, as they are designed to repeat. If you select the same options for both weeks, please understand that the class material will remain the same from one week to the next.
