Summer Wonder 2026

Learning is all about wondering—being curious, taking wise risks, inquiring, diving deeper—and about discovering the wonders of the world around us. At International School of the Sacred Heart, we strive to inspire that sense of wonder year round... and what better time to spend a little extra time wondering than during summer?

ISSH's summer school, Summer Wonder, is a two-week program aimed at girls age 3–Grade 8 and boys age 3–5* from the international community. This academic program is designed to engage students in a variety of fun topics and subject areas, inspiring curiosity and encouraging inquiry. Students enjoy intellectual, physical, and creative activities each day, discovering new joys and building confidence along the way.

*Male siblings of enrolled girls are welcome at all grade levels.

Boys: Age 3–5, or through Grade 8 when enrolled with a female sibling
Girls: Age 3–Grade 8
This program is for confident English speakers.
Current Sacred Heart students make up the majority of applicants, but we warmly welcome visitors from other schools in the Tokyo area and beyond. Though we generally do not accept overseas students due to limited space, members of the Sacred Heart community (former students, students from the network of Sacred Heart Schools, etc.) are also welcome.

Cost

Kindergarten & Junior School Program

Course fee for two weeks: ¥90,000
Course fee for one week: ¥60,000

Middle School Program

Course fee per session (week-long, AM or PM): ¥30,000
*Please note: Fees are charged per session; there is no discounted rate for full-day or two-week participation. Please see Grades 5-8 section of the Program Overview below for more details.

Application Process

Step 1: Complete the online application

The deadline for all applications is Monday, April 27. The application must be completed online:

Guest Registration Form
Students must enroll in the grade level that they are currently enrolled in (i.e. the grade level they will complete as of June 2026). Pre-Kindergarten students must be 3 years of age by September 1st, 2026 and toilet trained.

Step 2: Pay the course fees

After you complete the online application form, you will receive a confirmation and invoice for the course fees with payment instructions separately. Payment must be made by bank transfer or internet banking. Please note that the business office will not be able to accept program fees paid at the school in cash.

Payment must be made in full by Monday, May 11, 2026. Payments made after this date will incur a late fee of ¥5,000.

Cancellations made after May 11, 2026 will incur a cancellation fee of ¥10,000. Changes to program duration (two week attendance to one week, or vice versa) made after May 11, 2026 will incur a change fee of ¥5,000.

Please note that refunds are only possible by the week and refund requests must be made before classes start each Monday. Once classes begin, we will not be able to give refunds for that week regardless of missed days.

Option #2: Pre-order lunch from Cezars Kitchen through the application form at an additional cost.
*Please note that lunch must be purchased in advance for the entire duration of the student’s attendance, and can not be purchased by the day.

Camp Themes

WEEK ONE
Wonders of the World
Students will spend the week exploring the wonders of the world around them and beyond. Through hands-on activities, stories, and creative projects, they will build curiosity, develop international-mindedness, and discover new cultures, places, and ideas outside their everyday experiences.

WEEK TWO
Seeds of Wonder
Inspired by nature and the idea of growth, students will explore how strong foundations support learning and personal development, helping them grow in confidence, curiosity, and self-awareness.

Kindergarten

Our well-balanced Kindergarten Program is designed to stimulate your child’s mind and body. Students will participate in classroom-based activities, as well as specialist classes in the areas of art, music, and sports. The program is organized around the weekly camp themes that serves as a scaffold for imaginative play and experiential learning.

Pre-Kindergarten students must be 3 years of age by September 1st, 2026 and toilet trained.

Grades 1–4

Students in grades 1 to 4 choose from a wide range of electives offered by International School of the Sacred Heart faculty. Each day consists of four 75-minute sessions, and students will have the same daily timetable for that week. Course selection will be completed after registration. Families will be sent a separate course selection form in April.

We will end each week with a community Friday afternoon to showcase and share learning experiences.

Grades 5–8

This summer, our Middle School Program will offer a flexible, course-based format designed to give students more choice and deeper engagement in areas they’re excited about.

Students in Grades 5-8 can enroll in week-long courses led by our faculty and trusted external providers. Each course runs for 2.5 hours per day over five days and is offered in either a morning session (9:00-11:30) or an afternoon session (12:30-15:00). Students may choose from two morning course options and two afternoon course options each week. See course descriptions below.

Courses do not repeat, allowing students to explore different subjects across two weeks. Students may register for:

A full day by combining one morning and one afternoon course

For students staying the full day, a supervised lunch option is available between sessions for an additional fee. Please see the “Cost” section for more information.

Each week-long course is 30,000 yen. Fees are charged per course; there is no discounted full-day or two-week rate. Families may enroll in as many or as few courses as they wish, depending on their summer plans.

Course Descriptions

Week 1 Morning

Global Kitchen
Travel the world through food! Students will cook using international recipes, including some tested and popular dishes from Home Economics class, while building kitchen skills, teamwork, and curiosity about cuisines from all over the world.

Volleyball
Students will build and strengthen their volleyball skills through engaging drills, team-based play, and friendly challenges. The program focuses on movement, teamwork, and confidence-building in a fun, supportive environment for both new and experienced players.

Week 1 Afternoon

K-Pop Dance
Get ready to move! Students will learn exciting K-pop choreography, explore global pop culture, and build confidence, rhythm, and stage presence in a high-energy, creative environment.

Intro to Spanish
Students will jump into learning Spanish through games, conversations, and interactive activities that bring language and culture to life, helping them connect with the wider world in a fun and engaging way.

Week 2 Morning

Sustainable Kitchen
Let’s get sustainable! Students will explore how to cook in more sustainable ways while building practical kitchen skills and teamwork. Through hands-on cooking, they’ll learn how everyday food choices and habits can support personal growth and a more sustainable future.

Indoor Sports
Students will stay active through a variety of indoor sports and games such as futsal, basketball, handball, and dodgeball while building strong foundations in movement, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun, supportive environment.

Week 2 Afternoon

Dance Foundations
Students will develop core dance skills, strength, and coordination while exploring movement as a form of creative expression, all while building confidence and strong foundations in dance.

Green STEM Club
Discover the future of food! In this hands-on STEM program, students will explore how food grows - from soil-based gardens to soil-free hydroponic systems. Through interactive experiments, team challenges, and daily hands-on activities, students will investigate plant science, sustainability, and innovative growing methods. They'll get their hands dirty in the garden, grow fast-sprouting microgreens, and build a take-home project they can continue growing at home. No prior experience needed - just curiosity and enthusiasm for learning where food really comes from.
