Despite the dreary, rainy September weather, spirits were high in the Sacred Heart Kindergarten and Junior School on 15 September—it was Book Character Day! Joy and laughter rang out from all corners of the school as students, dressed as their favourite book characters and carrying copies of their favourite books to share with the community, gathered eagerly in the gym for the book character parade.

Costumes ran the gamut from wizards to princesses to cats, dogs, and even unicorns! Teachers joined in the fun with themed costumes after their own favourite children's books. Students eagerly displayed their favourite stories, keen to share their love of reading with their friends and classmates. "We are grateful for all the students and parents who contributed to the joy of this year's Book Character Day," commented Middle School Principal Mrs. Karen Wilson, "Creating original and colourful costumes really demonstrates our love of reading as a community!"

All in all, the day was a huge success, despite the rain bringing the parade indoors. "I extend a tremendous thank you to Ms. Erica Hashimoto and library assistant Ms. Gaby Nishizawa for their fine preparation of the day, coordinating music and venue set-ups," shared Kindergarten and Junior School Principal Ms. Ellen Yaegashi, "Thank you also to Mr. Nick Bello for ensuring the parade music set the stage! Finally, I thank all of our teachers for their enthusiasm and love of reading, too!"
