Employment

Faculty and staff are at the core of our Sacred Heart mission. Our passionate teachers and staff from diverse backgrounds and over 20 different countries are central to making our five Goals come alive every day and ensuring our students thrive. We believe that every employee—teachers, administrators, and staff members alike—are educators of the Sacred Heart and are integral parts of the educational experience for our students.
Why Work at Sacred Heart?
Founded in 1908, the International School of the Sacred Heart continues to be Tokyo's top school for girls to learn in an English-speaking and truly diverse environment that focuses on each student's academic, social-emotional, spiritual, psychological, and physical development. Teachers have so many opportunities to make an important and meaningful impact on our students—from the classroom to the gymnasium to the art studio and beyond. Girls and young women thrive in our school environment designed just for them, and the meaningful relationships they form with their teachers are integral in their journeys to become courageous and confident global leaders. Accredited by CIS and WASC, a founding member of the Japan Council of International Schools, and an active participant in the global network of 100+ Sacred Heart Schools in 35+ countries, Sacred Heart is a workplace squarely in the centre of a robust network of professional connections.
A Warm, Welcoming, Mission-Driven Community

As a central aspect of our Sacred Heart ethos, ISSH values community and prioritises ensuring that every student feels welcomed, known, and loved. Our faculty and staff live out our mission and our Sacred Heart goals each day, modelling them for our students and the greater community. Our programmes are all based in the enduring Sacred Heart tradition of developing the whole person—not just intellectually, but physically, emotionally, and spiritually, as well. Just as the Society of the Sacred Heart has grown and evolved with time, we are deeply committed to updating our practises and ensuring our students develop the skills needed to be internationally minded 21st-century learners.
A Dedication to Diversity and Belonging
Celebration of diversity and a fierce commitment to inclusion to foster a community of love, acceptance, and belonging are integral to Goal 1 and to ISSH's identity as a Catholic school and a Sacred Heart school. Our community is made up of more than 40 nationalities and more than 15 religious traditions and belief systems. At a strategic level, our faculty and staff Community and Belonging Committee works to ensure we live up to our commitment to belonging and inclusion through our policies and programmes.
