The JS String Ensemble is open to all students in grades 1-4 who are currently taking private lessons on a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass). Rehearsals are held every Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Duchesne Room, and students must demonstrate an adequate level of music reading ability in order to join the group. Usually, 2 years of private lessons is required to achieve this level, though it varies from one student to another.
Weekly rehearsals involve basic technical reinforcement, unison scale and solo repertoire development, chamber music making and rehearsal of string orchestra arrangements. The JS Strings Ensemble performs at various events, including the JS Christmas Program, Family Festival and the Spring Recital.
